Our Mission Partners

People’s Kitchen

People’s Kitchen of Grover Beach serves a hot meal to the needy in our area every day of the year from 12-1 p.m. Many of those who attend are homeless, but others are mentally or physically challenged, elderly or just low on funds.

Saint John’s People’s Kitchen team provides lunch and a brief worship service for attendees on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. While the meal team prepares and serves the meal, our Music Team leads the attendees in three worship songs and provides a brief sermon.

We’d love for you to join us or just come to see how this ministry Embraces The Broken by reaching OUT to those hungry for more than just a meal!

Want to get involved?  More information is available at the Connect Central table or by contacting Janice Goodwin (music) or Bob Weiger (meal).

Dress a Girl

Dress a Girl Around the World is an international non-profit organization that is affiliated with Hope for Women International.  Saint John’s members as well as members from other local congregations meet on the 2nd Saturday of the month from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. to cut fabric, serge edges, and sew simple sundress and peasant dresses for girls sizes 4-14.

Our dresses are primarily sent to Third World countries where the girls grow up in poverty and have probably never had a brand-new dress of their own. We include notes about Jesus’ love for them and His desire for them to be strong and confident children of the God who loves them. The Dress a Girl label sewn on each dress is a sign to human traffickers that the girl wearing that dress is part of a protected group and should be left alone.

Iglesia Luterana San Juan Bautista

San Juan Bautista is a Lutheran congregation serving the Hispanic Spanish and Mixteco-speaking immigrant population in Santa Maria.  Many of the members work in jobs that support the local agriculture. The church provides food and supplies to the community, a monthly lunch and sermon for laborers in the field, and weekly worship services and baptism, confirmation and Bible study classes.

San Juan Bautista relies on financial and volunteer support from other churches, businesses and individuals in the community, including Saint John’s.  Recently we raised nearly $4,000 to renovate a garage used for the storing and distribution of food and supplies. Each year the Christmas Angel tree project provides gifts for hundreds of children and youth.

Zozu Project

The Zozu Project’s child sponsorship program supports over 600 of the poorest children to attend Solid Rock Christian School in Arua, Uganda. “Zozu” means “thrive” in the local tribal language.

For $40 per month, many Saint John’s members are helping a child to thrive. Education, especially an education in English, opens doors for these children to build their own careers through determination and hard work. It truly is a hand up, not a hand out.

LifeLine Pregnancy Center

LifeLine Pregnancy Center is a non-profit 501(c)(3) that has been servicing the Five Cities Community for over 30 years. LifeLine’s trained personnel provide education, free pregnancy testing, free ultrasounds, parenting support and post-abortion support to both women and men in the community.  Saint John’s delivers financial support throughout the year as well as participating in LifeLine’s “baby bottle” campaign during Lent.

LifeLine has recently added a boutique where clients can “shop” for free baby clothes and supplies.  Saint John’s knitting group makes baby blankets and hats for the boutique

Five Cities Christian Women’s Food Pantry

The Five Cities Christian Women's Food Ministry has been providing food for hungry people in our community for over 50 years.  The pantry is housed at LifePoint church and staffed by volunteers from many local churches. Clients receive fresh produce, meat and groceries up to two times per month.

Saint John’s selects a “food of the month” and collects food donations in the “Lord’s Wagon” located in the Commons. At the end of each month, the donations are taken to the pantry, and we start with a new food item.

Want to get involved?  More information is available at Connect Central or simply bring your donations to church and place them in the wagon.

Global & Community Missions Team

The Global and Community Missions Team’s goal is to obey Jesus’ mandate to go to all nations and proclaim the good news.  We do this by supporting ministries, locally and internationally, that are also committed to this high calling.

In addition to supporting the Iglesia Luterana San Juan Bautista in Santa Maria and the Zozu Project in Uganda, the team provides financial support to Frontiers (outreach to Muslim peoples; www.frontiersusa.org) and financial support and camp sponsorships to China Service Ventures (www.chinaserviceventures.org). The team also prepared “Agape Love Baskets” for shut-ins and members of the community in need of encouragement.
